Active Surveillance
In order to closely monitor the progression for prostate cancer, Active Surveillance is the choice used by USMD Prostate Cancer.
By utilizing Active Surveillance, the doctor can determine if the cancer is present and / or track the growth rate of the cancer.

Patients who choose active surveillance as their course of treatment will benefit by avoiding side effects of other cancer treatments. This will help them maintain their quality of life. Lifestyle changes, such as a healthy diet and a regular exercise regiment may also aid in slowing the progression in certain cancer.

Because prostate cancer often does grow slowly, Active Surveillance continues to remain an option for patients with low-grade, early-stage prostate cancer.

If you are not a candidate for Active Surveillance, you and your physician may consider:

• Robotic Surgery

• Radiation Therapy

• Cryotherapy

• High Intensity Focused Ultrasound
